Racquet Tension Linked to Tennis Elbow

Researchers from Dundee University have found a link between the use of modern, tightly strung racquets and an increase in tennis elbow.

An estimated 50% of players, both professional and amateur, will be affected by the condition at some point in their careers.

Racquet string tension has increased from about 44lbs in the 1920s to an average of 55 to 75lbs. Higher tension allows the player more control but also puts stress on muscles and tendons in the arm.

Prof Rami Abboud, lead researcher on the study, told BBC Good Morning Scotland that tests showed a clear relationship between varying string tension and the forces that were placed on the elbow
